Women's Empowerment  Print

Family Planning International is committed to the empowerment of women. Women's rights are human rights, equal with men's. Empowering women is an indispensable tool for advancing development and reducing poverty, as well as an important goal in itself.

Women are entitled to live in dignity and freedom. Discrimination against women and girls includes gender-based violence, economic discrimination, reproductive health inequities and harmful traditional practices.

How well women are treated in a society is one of the strongest indicators of the success and health of a society.

By providing girls with an education, allowing women to have a voice in family decisions and , and providing women with opportunities for economic freedom, we build stronger future generations.

The importance of gender equality is emphasised by the Millennium Development Goals  and the International Conference on Population and Development Programme of Action.
